The Kuya Group is a business comprising three companies based in Malawi: Kuya Records and Kuya Media headquartered in the capital Lilongwe, and Kuya Wellness Spa on the shores of Lake Malawi in Nkhata Bay north of the country.

The Word Cocoa Bean refers to the seed from which one of the world’s most loved foods – chocolate – is made. Cocoa and Chocolate are also synonyms used to refer to the skin colour of most Africans. Cocoa Bean is as we know a seed grown in Africa, but one that brings immense delight to the entire world.

The Kuya Group of companies are therefore established and designed to bring unique value and delights from Africa to our customers anywhere they may be in the world through Afromusic, exclusive wellness hospitality and broadcast content.

The Kuya Group company philosophy is based on from the Japanese concept of omotenashi which is said to have been established by the grandfather of the Japanese tea ceremony, Sen no Rikyu, through his ways of entertaining his guests with the Japanese tea ceremony known as chakai. Omotenash is about  rendering each experience as a “ichigo ichie” or a once in a lifetime experience. Each customer is unique and deserving of a unique once in a lifetime experience.

Our Wellness Spa for instance, thrives to make our hospitality not as visible as “service” but frequently intangible. It is in the things not done as much as what is done. Omotenashi is frequently invisible to the customer and essentially should never intentionally remind the customer of the hospitality. And our music and broadcast content is designed to connect with each one of our audience and customer as a unique individual with the unique ability to derive a personalised rare experience.
