Justice Fiona Atupele Mwale

Director

Justice Fiona Atupele Mwale (LLB (Hons) Leeds, LLM Warwick) was appointed judge of the High Court of Malawi in November 2012. From 2013-2017, she was appointed Chairperson of the Child Case Review Board which oversees juvenile justice in Malawi and is the now the Chairperson of the National Child Justice Forum and the Child Justice Directorate in the Malawi Judiciary. She has a strong background in women’s rights and child rights and previously headed programs in the Malawi Law Commission that led to the enactment of a number of gender-related laws as well as a comprehensive law on childcare, justice and protection. She has a keen interest in judicial training and from 2017 – 2018 she was awarded the prestigious Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship at Washington College of Law in the United States where she also worked with the International Association of Women Judges as a Judicial Training Expert. She is currently the National Training Coordinator for the Women Judges Association of Malawi and has designed training curriculum and conducted gender responsive judicial training not only in Malawi but also in Mozambique, Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Tanzania South Africa and Zambia. She has published a Monograph on “Family and Succession Law in Malawi” under the International Encyclopaedia of Law Series. She is a member of the United Nations Women Regional Ending Violence Against Women (EVAW) Reference Group where she provides strategic direction for EVAW programming for the Eastern and Southern African Region. She has substantive corporate governance experience and is currently on the board of the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa based in Johannesburg, African Women’s Initiative for Social Change based in Kenya and is the outgoing Board Chairperson for the Kamuzu Academy Alumni Association. She has consulted widely as a gender and trafficking in persons expert with the United Nations and other international organizations both within and outside Malawi.

Ms. Ntombi Mcoyi

Director

Founder & Managing Director of InRise Consulting
Ntombi is the founder and managing director of InRise Consulting which focuses on individual and organisational leadership development, and employee wellbeing. Her multifaceted experience in conflict mediation, executive coaching, and being a transformative facilitator is an extension to her psycho-social qualifications, and human rights background.
Through her career, Ntombi has contributed her expertise in both the public and private sector – engaging in conflict mediation and facilitating social cohesion dialogues between locals and non-nationals in collaboration with the Nelson Mandela Foundation and Africa Unite. Ntombi has worked extensively in trauma counselling especially with survivors of gender based violence; and her passion to bring about positive change in society led to her co-facilitating at Intergenerational Leadership Forums initiated by the UNESCO Chair; this was where her commitment to influencing leadership development was solidified. Her career advanced in leadership development through The Institute of Directors Southern Africa, in her role as Director Development Manager and she later was certified as an Ethics Officer by Stellenbosch University and the Ethics Institute.
Ntombi specialises in mental health and personal leadership development, with over 18 years’ experience assisting organisations and individuals with holistic wellbeing.

Mr. Allison Mbang'ombe

Director

Mr. Mbang'ombe is an experienced Lawyer. His specialization is in the areas of Public Private Partnerships, Project finance, Legislative Drafting and generally commercial law transactions. He is a certified PPP specialist and a well- known legislative draftsperson having drafted more than 15 pieces of legislation in Malawi. Mr. Mbang’ombe is also a well-known consultant who has consulted extensively for reputable institutions. One of his notable achievement in the consulting space is the development of first ever SADC Protocol on Industry. He is currently working with an institution called Public Private Partnership Commission, a government institution responsible for facilitation of PPPs in Malawi. He is the Commission’s Director of the Legal Department, responsible for legal and governance aspects of the institution and in particular, in PPP project preparation and PPP procurement. He is also responsible for PPP contract negotiations and structuring, contract management, performance monitoring and enforcement, as well as dispute resolution in PPP projects. He is an expert in PPP legal and institutional feasibility analysis, corporate governance and drafting of PPP contracts.
The impeccable legal career of Mr. Mbang’ombe spans over 20 years of service in the public sector in various capacities. He started his career as a State Advocate at the Ministry of Justice in 1995 after which he joined the Lilongwe City Council as a Legal Officer progressing to the post of Legal Services Manager. Prior to joining the Public Private Partnership Commission in 2012, Mr. Mbang’ombe worked as Chief Law Reform Officer at the Malawi Law Commission, heading the law reform department. He has also served as Acting Law Commissioner and Secretary to a Commission of Inquiry instituted by the late former President of Malawi, Professor Bingu wa Mutharika to investigate causes of the violence and deaths that took place during the July 20, 2011 public demonstrations.
In addition to being a Certified PPP Specialist, Mr. Mbang’ombe holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree from the University of Malawi which was obtained in 1995. He also holds a Master of Laws degree in International Economic Law from the University of Warwick (UK) obtained in 2001 and an Executive MBA (ESAMI) obtained in 2010. Mr. Mbangombe further holds a post Graduate diploma in Project Management obtained at the Galilee International Management Institute in Israel.

Dr McBride Nkhalamba

Chairman & CEO

Dr. McBride Nkhalamba is the current Ag Director of Governance and Specialized Reporting at the African Union entity of the APRM. He is an international diplomat and technocrat with a strong background in multilateral institutions, state affiliated institutions and international organizations. He has applied understanding of established practices in international affairs, regional integration, public administration, and multilateral diplomacy. Dr Nkhalamba has held senior leadership positions as Head of Policy and Programmes for the Southern Africa Trust, Head of Research and Development at the African Union - APRM, Senior Visiting Fellow at the Atlantic Council of the United States, Team Leader at the European Union AIDS Project and Ag Head of Policy at ActionAid International. He has also been a board member for a regional security policy group, and NGOs and international donor projects among other. In these roles Dr Nkhalamba engaged with regional and national parliaments, governments, and international multilateral agencies across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the US at the highest levels of policy making. While with the African Union, he has led country review missions assessing the entire spectrum of state administration and in specialized areas. Since 2016, Dr Nkhalamba has worked as APRM Country Coordinator for Ethiopia, Lesotho, Liberia, Uganda, Sierra Leone and South Africa. He is also a former University of Bolton Lecturer in Public Policy and Administration at the Malawi Institute of Management and has published on economic governance in the areas of budget analysis, sovereign credit ratings, corporate governance, and national economic policy.
He holds a PhD in Administration (UKZN, South Africa) MA in International Affairs and MPA/EMPA (Maxwell School, Syracuse University, USA) and a BSoc (Chancellor College, Malawi)
Dr Nkhalamba’s private interest is in ecofriendly entrepreneurship and is currently establishing a green business in the hospitality and tourism industry using approaches in sustainable construction materials, green franchises, ecofriendly retail, organic catering and green housekeeping and green energy. The approach is premised on the agenda to position Africa as leading ecofriendly leisure destination.

Ms Nomvula Dlamini

Director

Ms Nomvula is a Global thought leader in Business with a solid understanding and experience in Africa’s Development and Corporate Governance. Her impeccable business expertise is embedded in her passion for HUMAN RIGHTS with a particular interest in the welfare of children and women in Africa. To en-sure that she contributes to the livelihoods of the disadvan-taged, she is one of the Directors serving at the Board of Bona Lesedi, a Non-Profit Organisation based in Diepsloot looking after people living with Disabilities. She shares her expertise, network, and skills through the acquisition of funding for the organization.

Her passion is to contribute to the development of Africa through the inculcation of good governance, the spirit of Ubuntu, and integrity that is underpinned by the competencies of astute business understanding and wealth creation. She has been nominated as a panelist at various Africa’s high-level dialogues with some of the current and former Africa’s Heads of State, Ministers, and other Key Opinions Leaders. Ms. Dlamini is a member of one of South Africa’s most influential, socially- conscious Women's League, a core member of the Young Women’s Desk, executive member of Africa’s Women Network (AWL), to mention a few. Her strong political affilia-tions have assisted in elevating discussions around Good Governance in South Africa’s economic management.
Nomvula has received several commercially renowned acco-lades: The Next Generation Award and the Breaking Ground Innovation, 2016. Nomvula is an industry’s multi-award-winner, a multi–layered, well-rounded commercial practitioner with solid 20 years of experience in the FMCG industry. Her career has spanned various disciplines from Regulatory Affairs, Project Management, Brand Management, Digital Marketing to mention a few. She has worked for some of the world’s largest organizations, including Nestle, Unile-ver, Beiersdorf, L’Oreal, and PepsiCo. A global thought leader whose experience has been tried and tested in various markets across the globe, ie Germany, Switzer-land, East/West Africa, and the Sub-Saharan Region.
She has in-depth insights, understanding, and exposure to different markets across Africa. She has been de-scribed by key opinion leaders as insightful, analytical, driven, game-changer, strategist, and an enthusiastic business-savvy professional with a genuine interest in advancing Africa’s economy through development.
Nomvula has earned her position in the boardroom through her leading multi-functional project teams from different countries. With her strong leading- from- the- front approach, she has further led tough trade negotia-tions with well-adverse executives in the industry. Her expertise has birthed cutting-edge innovations, growth, and sustainable profitability.
Her professional training started after she completed her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Kwa-Zulu-Natal. Soon after graduating she joined Unilever as a graduate Trainee in 2002, Subsequently, Ms Dlamini was headhunted by Beiersdorf Hamburg in Germany to form part of their very first Africa’s Project team. After 2 years, she re-turned back to Africa to head up the Sub-Saharan Region which she won several awards for, In 2006 she then joined Nestle and was soon seconded to Switzerland to head up Africa’s various projects. She spent over 10 years with Nestle where she gained exposure in Regulatory, marketing, project management that was obtained in different markets in Africa.
Some of her Achievements include unlocked a Deadlocked Trade and Pricing Negotiations with one of the toughest top retailers in South Africa. She has also chaired a multi-functional team of expert—Woolworths Private Label project Part of the High profile negotiations at The Goods Council of SA “Breastfeeding is Best” campaign. Prof. Paul Revill

Director

Paul is a Professor at the Centre for Health Economics and is the theme lead for Global Health Economic Evaluation. He is the Director of Thanzi la Onse (Health of All). His interests expand across the field of health economics but centre on use of economic evaluation to inform resource allocation and health care organization. An aim of Paul's research is to inform better health policy-making, leading to improvements in population health and reduced health inequalities. This involves identifying aspects of health policy and practice that act to enhance or hinder population health improvement; assessing the suitability of health economic methods to guide activities addressing these, developing and proposing improved methods where necessary; and applying economic analysis to better inform health policymaking. His work has been particularly focused on sub-Saharan Africa and HIV.
Paul has affiliated positions with the MRC Clinical Trials Unit at University College London, the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) in London and the Centre for Global Development (CGD) in Washington DC.
